Stomp-n-Stammer Review of Rockin Pontoons!
http://www.stompandstammer.com
The Rockin Pontoons are sorta like the house band of Virginia-Highland. They're a staple of the wobbly bars and block parties of that bustling neighborhood, but haven't expanded too far beyond it. That said, they're a much better than average bar band, as their latest CD, Faith in a Happy Ending , demonstrates. With obvious effort put into the production, writing and performances, Happy Ending offers 15 jolts of Stoney rock, NRBQ-style rollicking humor, a bit of (I swear) a classic Meatloaf approach on a few songs and, in a clear indication of their creative reach, a palpable gospel feel pervading much of the album.

iTunes Review of Faith In A Happy Ending:
A Cornucopia of Listening Pleasure! "The first thing that grabs you when you listen to "Faith in a Happy Ending" is the toe-tapping rhythm which plays beautifully off the strong melodies and rich vocals. This CD has an amazing, pristine sound which produces a unique and compelling energy that breaks boundaries. Steve Coffey’s clever lyrics are carefully constructed with a deceptively minimalist style and when combined with the uplifting melodies and engaging progressive guitar riffs, you will find yourself stopping whatever it is you were doing just to listen closer. You will find yourself humming these songs in your head long after you’ve heard it."

Personal Bios:

My name is Steve Coffey and I began my career as a Mouseketeer.
The rest, is history.

Randy Elliot was a soul prodigy unceremoniously dropped from a label owned by James Brown after the assassination of Martin Luther King.

Laura Dees was a nun in Mother Theresa’s order. They didn’t like the way she served the poor in high heels, so she joined my band.

John Todd (AKA “ Johnny Dangerously”)
We don’t know his past and we don’t want to know.

Dave Rich & Doug Marlatt play drums and stand so far behind me, I don’t recall a conversation with either of them.

Album reviews for Rockin Pontoons debut album: Beautiful American Dust - 2005

“Beautiful American Dust seems an appropriate name for an album that incorporates so many styles of American music. The organ, pedal steel and great beats will draw you in and the smart lyrics delivered in Coffey’s deadpan voice will keep you coming back for more.”
(Mare Wakefield – Performing Songwriter)

“Beautiful American Dust is a marvelous achievement. “Miracles” displays the poetic charm and writing dexterity of this supremely ambitious group. Packed with sixteen quality songs of dazzling compositional technique and hook-laden chemistry. This is a simply attractive and engaging work, ready to savor and enjoy fully!”
(Shawn M. Haney – Southeast Performer)

Hailing from Atlanta are the Rockin Pontoons, whose Beautiful American Dust is as sweet a platter of boozy, woozy music as you’ll chow down on all month.”
(Fred Mills – Stomp and Stammer)

“Piloted by Steve Coffey’s wistful vocals, the Pontoons float over sublime duets that highlight the band’s terrific debut album Beautiful American Dust. The live show adds grit to the songs, which shift from soulful to sensitive to sassy in a heartbeat.”
(Hal Horowitz – Creative Loafing)

“Each of Beautiful American Dust’s 16 tracks is capable of standing alone which speaks to Coffey’s songwriting as well as the band’s fully developed sounds.”
(High Bias)

“Really cool stuff”
(Billy Block – Western Beat)

“I really dig the tunes!”
(Fred Mills – Magnet)
